INSTRUCTIONS

For Year 3 to Year 6 School Students.

Closing date for Entries is Friday 14th May 2021

We are unable to extend the closing date for entries

Entries will be collected from each School during week ending Friday 21st May 2021

The competition, which is free to all entrants, is proudly sponsored by the Forestville sub-Branch of the Returned & Services League of Australia and is conducted in conjunction with School Principals and Teachers. It has been designed to enhance in students their sense of pride and patriotism in being an Australian through Writing and Art.

The topic for 2021 is “Australian Military Aviation and the Centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force”.    The topic acknowledges the significant contribution that air power has made to the defence of Australia.  However, it is slightly broader than purely the RAAF, in acknowledgement of the role played by the pioneers of the Australian Flying Corps as an integral part of the Australian Imperial Force both in France and the Middle East in World War 1.

As far as topic analysis is concerned, it is not one limited to just combat aircraft but also includes areas such as:

  • Transport aircraft
  • Maritime Surveillance

as well as marine surveillance and rescue aircraft such as:

  • Catalinas
  • Helicopters
  • Drones
  • Airfield Defence and Construction

and famous personalities such as:

  • Hudson Fysh
  • Charles Kingsford-Smith
  • Wing Commander Hughie Edwards, VC, DSO, OBE, DFC
